Palestine, the UGL slams the unions in the streets: "The strike is instrumental, only causing disruption and chaos. Indirect complicity with Hamas terrorists."
" Blocking newly reopened schools, transportation, and commuters is not the solution to the conflict in Palestine . This will only create inconvenience for citizens, without achieving concrete results: the risk is that the strike will turn into a political tool of protest against the government, rather than a true act of solidarity." This is what Paolo Capone, Secretary General of the UGL , told Affaritaliani , commenting on the mobilization called by some unions for today, Monday, September 22.
"It's absolutely legitimate to demonstrate," Capone continues, "but it's unrealistic to think that a regional protest could impact a complex crisis like Gaza . Today, the Palestinians are held hostage by Hamas: a bloody war cannot be addressed with simple declarations or strikes that only affect Italian workers. The condemnation of terrorism must be clear, and the level of intervention must be international, not at the expense of citizens and workers."
"Domestic," Capone adds, "the strike comes even before the government presents its budget, which last year already adopted important measures such as cutting the tax wedge. Open challenges remain, from industrial policy to the steel crisis, but these must be addressed through dialogue, not by exploiting workers ."
"I support the call for recognition of the Palestinian people, but this will only be possible once Hamas has laid down its weapons and released the hostages. Without this step, any initiative risks becoming complicity, even indirect, with terrorists . The priority today is to work for a cessation of hostilities and for international negotiations that ensure peace, security, and rights for all," Capone concludes.
